چکیده

Main m e m o r y databases are promising approach t o realize high-performance sys tems without expensive special hardware. One serious problem is reliability and we need t o develop backup and recovery mechanisms suitable for m a i n m e m o r y . In order t o reduce overhead for backup operations, we have developed continuous backup mechanisms, which transmit data t o archive storage during utilization of main m e m ory without any software assistance. Flash memorybased storage can improve the e f ic iency over conventional disk sys tems, since it can realize fas ter read and write operations. A s sequential access i s performed by a series of direct accesses, the overhead caused by scheduling t o utilize sequential access is not required. One serious drawback of f lash memory i s the limit of the number of rewrite operations. W e have developed mechanisms which can realize f ive year lifetime by the current technology. Performance evaluation of the sys tems i s also presented.

ChunkStash: Speeding Up Inline Storage Deduplication Using Flash Memory

Storage deduplication has received recent interest in the research community. In scenarios where the backup process has to complete within short time windows, inline deduplication can help to achieve higher backup throughput. In such systems, the method of identifying duplicate data, using disk-based indexes on chunk hashes, can create throughput bottlenecks due to disk I/Os involved in index l...

FlashVM: Revisiting the Virtual Memory Hierarchy

Flash memory is the largest change to storage in recent history. Most research to date has focused on integrating flash as persistent storage in file systems, with little emphasis on virtual memory paging. However, the VM architecture in most of the commodity operating systems is heavily customized for using disks through software layering, request clustering, and prefetching. We revisit the VM...

Extending flash lifetime in secondary storage

Unlike magnetic disks, NAND flashes can be written a limited number of times. As flash memory densities increase and cell sizes shrink, further decreases in write endurance is expected. Although some mitigation is achieved by wear leveling, write endurance remains a concern for write intensive applications. In this research, we use a DRAM cache to filter write traffic to flash by coalescing and...

A Novel Framework Lime Lighting Dedup Over Caches in an Tacit Dope Center

Flash memory-based caches inside VM hypervisors can reduce I/O latencies and offload much of the I/O traffic from network-attached storage systems deployed in virtualized data centers. This paper e x p l o r e s the effectiveness of content deduplication in these large (typically 100s of GB) host-side caches. Previous deduplication studies focused on data mostly at rest in backup and archive ap...
